Priority is given to areas with conservation goals and/or protection commitments that have undergone degradation. These areas are then mapped, reviewed, and georeferenced using GPS technology.
Species and plant types are selected based on local climate conditions, the type of forest or area to be recovered, and the specific ecology of each species. Watering requirements and the ecological and social functions of the reforestation project are also key factors.
Based on the information collected, we establish the reforestation project pen to paper. This should represent, with the greatest possible degree of fidelity, the result of the reforestation.
This stage defines the operational process for the reforestation, including dates, timelines, tools, supplies, labor, irrigation systems, costs, and more.
This is where planting operations are carried out, ensuring the successful establishment of each scheduled species in strict accordance with the previously defined design and methodology.
1. The soil is loosened in 30 x 30 x 30 cm planting holes.
2. A hole is dug large enough to completely accommodate the plant’s root system.
3. A wooden stake is placed next to the plant to ensure it stands firm.
4. The soil is firmed by hand until the plant feels completely secure.
5. An individual tree guard is placed and secured to the wooden stake.
Through the use of individual tree guards, each plant is properly shielded from potential mechanical damage—such as wind impact or herbivory—as well as extreme weather conditions like high radiation and temperature fluctuations.
Reforestation projects include an annual monitoring plan to assess the status of the ecosystem and the plants, allowing for timely intervention if any adverse effects occur. These monitoring activities are conducted during the first 5 years following planting operations.
